about the creators
Brooklynn Baca (they/she) and Riley Cohen (she/her) are a musical theatre writing duo who began collaborating in 2020, after meeting during their time at Las Vegas Academy of The Arts. Less than a year after they started writing their first full-length musical, they did a workshop and staged reading of it at Vegas Theatre Company in the iconic Arts District of Downtown Las Vegas. They have since written and developed two original musicals and had their material performed at The Smith Center. Brooklynn and Riley are dedicated to centering mental health, individuality, otherness, and inclusivity throughout their works.
ABOUT perfect summer evening
Perfect Summer Evening is the story of Connie, a guarded young boy on a farm just outside of Ann Arbor in 1977. As he navigates the typical trials and tribulations of growing up, he begins a not-so-typical friendship with the only other beings that seem as outcast as him: Charlie Major and Charlie Minor, a pair of conjoined calves. Inspired by Laura Gilpin’s “The Two-Headed Calf”, this tale of love and loss explores the fragility and importance of life itself and how we can make the most of our limited time.
